Thank you for visiting our website. We are a family Breeder located outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Our mission is to breed the finest show quality purebred Black Russian Terriers possible and then help them to become the most stable and well-rounded puppies possible before they go to live with their new families. We breed for the highest quality, not quantity. We want everyone who owns an Over the Moon Black Russian to feel that they could not have a better puppy and simply be over-joyed, or .......over the moon!
Here at OtM, Socialization is of the utmost importance! We now use the complete Puppy Culture Protocol program of training and socializing puppies in their first 12 weeks of life. We start from the puppies third day of life with the "Super Dog" Early Neurological Stimulation Program and Sound Desensitization, follow that up with introducing textures, smells and novelty, then people and children of all types and sizes, clicker training, crate training, potty training, leash training, grooming, challenges and continue until the day they go home. At that time we strongly encourage their new parents to continue the process. All of this is critical in the development of a confident, stable, enrichment seeking, Black Russian with a great temperament and a good little citizen that adapts well to everything life has to offer in the future!
Why get your puppy from Over the Moon Black Russians? We offer the top quality health, conformation and temperament. We specialize in breeding the top show dogs in the country. While family companions are important, they should also be bred in accordance to the AKC Written Standard for the breed. There should be no such thing as "Pet Quality Breeders". Every single purebred dog breeder should be breeding to IMPROVE the breed, not just "make puppies"! Right now there are far more breeders doing the later without giving thought to the future of this amazing breed. To improve the breed as a whole, you must continually breed better and healthier dogs. Every single breeding dog should be an excellent specimen of the breed without one single disqualifying fault. "These are only pets" is never an excuse, and one that a good breeder would never even think of saying. Every breeder should perform all of the recommended health tests and publish or show you the documented results for each dog. Before breeding a dog, they should also show their breeding stock in AKC Confirmation to a Championship. It is only by defeating others by being the best dog or bitch in the ring that day that earns Championship Points. It also eliminates dogs that have disqualifying traits. If they have disqualifying traits, the should not be bred. If they have unstable or aggressive temperaments, they also should not be bred. If they have genetic defects they should not be bred. It is up to each future puppy owner to do your due diligence to seek out the good breeders from those that are just "making puppies".
What about all of those letters? Often times people unknowingly think that a dog with lots of letters before or after its name makes it a better parent. Many of the letters and titles reflect nothing about the animal. Many are just "Aptitude" Titles. You go to an event, pay a fee and let the puppy try it. If the puppy completes the task, VIOLA! more letters! This is also the case with some of the non AKC titling organizations. Essentially, you are paying money for those letters. There are lots of people out there that try to impress people this way. While we may have lots of those letters on our dogs title, we don't over inflate them. We would much rather be the #7 Owner Handled Black Russian of All Time or in The Top Ten AKC Rankings in both Breed and All Breed, or the Number One Owner Handled BRT in the Country, or in the Top Twenty Black Russians of All Time, or the Number Three Working Dog in the Nation. Those huge accomplishments don't result in any extra letters at all. Those kind of titles are what makes us a superior breeder, and it is what makes our puppies "Over the Moon puppies" and it comes from many years of dedication, hard work, financial investment and success.
